Protestors in symbolic cells in Georgia
In 2009 I took photos of a demonstration in Tbilisi where people set up metal cubes in the main square and lived inside them for weeks. The photos I took were then used on a website called Citizenside, which is a crowd sourced journalist website.
My original post
I heard about a public-driven journalism website from a friend, http://www.citizenside.com and I uploaded some photos I took of the ‘cells’ that appeared all over the main street, Rustaveli, Freedom Square and around the Parliament building yesterday morning. These metal framed cuboids covered in plastic sheeting are housing protesters claiming the president Saakashvili has been wrongly imprisoning people. When I took photos some people were still sleeping on makeshift beds inside the symbolic cells.I was pleased to see my photos validated by the website and they appeared on the front page getting lots of exposure! The link to my story is here.

Reasons you need to put Georgia on your travel must-see list!
Georgia is an absolute stunner of a place, and one that people are rapidly starting to wake up to.
Here are 10 reasons why:
- The amazing mountains
These mountain ranges will have anyone gasping in awe. The High Caucasus range is impressive, on par with the Alps, and boasts five peaks higher than Mont Blanc, hot spring geysers, glaciers and more. There are some fantastic trails around the peaks, scented by the forests of pine trees, and one of the best ways to explore them is via mountain bike. With truly epic views in store, get ready and gear up to be stunned.
Cycling Across Europe - Weave of the Ride Photo Essay
We started out as three and had to get used to life on the road.
However, the freedom was palpable and things soon improved.
Once we had crossed the hidden beauty of the Suffolk and benefitted from the long distance cycle paths of Holland that increased our fitness,
We came to the first mountains, and experienced the serene pristine beauty of the French and Swiss Alps.
Utility cycling and long distance cycling
I recently cycled from Leicestershire to London as I’m moving there and have done a few trips down to sort out accommodation and visit friends. It is not that difficult to pedal in and out of London with many routes on small roads, cycle and canal tow paths. On a previous trip I also followed the Thames path for a section.
There is something satisfying about biking a route which you have done many times before by car, train, or bus but because cycling gives you a sense of the places and geography. The landscape along the route is embedded in my memory. With the prospect of staying in the UK for a while, I’m determined to explore more by bike.
Offroad Biking in Northamptonshire
Not a lot of hills in Northamptonshire but if you look for them there are some. In fact the “Northampton Uplands” is an official hilly ridge that runs west of Northampton.
Offroad biking isn’t well provisioned for in Northamptonshire. However there are some popular Facebook communities. The most popular are the Northampton Mountain Bike Group and the Wakerley Woods Mountain Bike group.
The former is mainly about biking at Delapre Abbey grounds and Harleston firs along with trips further afield. The latter is all about biking at Wakerley and Fineshade woods.
What does cycling round India feel like?
Cycling in India was fantastic but there were many ups and downs. The experience was a bombardment of the senses that was, at times, both pleasant and unpleasant. There was the divine smell of incense burning in a temple or delicious spicy curry cooking. On the other hand, there was the repulsive smell of an open sewer or revolting, rotting rubbish in the street.
India shaped me, literally. I lost a stone, even though I was eating a cyclist’s diet which consisted of a huge amount of curry and syrupy sweets. The combination of illness, hot climate and an increased intensity of life was another level of existence I had never experienced before.
Mountain Biking in Georgia Video Edits - GoPro / iPhone
Between 2009 - 2015 I spent time on a project to offer mountain bike tours in Georgia called Georiders. I didn’t get around to creating these videos from some of the footage shot, mainly because I found there wasn’t a bit of software out there that just let me create little videos on the fly. GoPro’s studio software is available as a free download and you can use it to edit not only GoPro footage but footage filmed with other devices.
Cornwall
Video made from phone footage, shot on Cornish coast. No zooming, short static clips and borrowed (attributed at the end of the video). Capturing a range of scenes and landscapes from beaches and waves to cliff tops and fields. Purely for fun to capture the typical holiday scenes but also the textures, light and the weather.
