Collaborative Filmmaking in Armenia
In April I went to Armenia to spend three weeks with a friend I met through the online service: Couchsurfing in order to learn about filmmaking and photography, conduct some interviews, and share his way of life. It was a prototype of how Couchsurfing extends beyond the remit of simply using an online service as a means of somewhere to stay into a space where a learning process can emerge.
The most important part of this experience was learning about their way of life. There was a code of conduct and shared resources which allowed the being together to happen: space to sleep, cleaning, making food, abiding by the rules of the house, waiting for things to happen, having an open mind and being willing to learn from the host.
My framework should encourage a sense of mindfulness in the learner and educator, and to remain aware and focused to facilitate the most beneficial learning experience. A way to encourage this state of awareness is to bring people together in situations that are not familiar to them and bringing people face to face.
