Are Shimano MT91 Boots A Good Choice for Adventure Riding?
I managed to get a pair of these beauties sponsored from Chain Reaction Cycles. They are a hiking-style boot with a solid sole for riding efficiency. They are useful for long distance riding where comfort, water resistance and durability are paramount.
Protection: Rubber reinforcements on toe and heel for protection and durability/ Volume+ last for a more accommodating toe box
Upper: Natural Nubuck leather paired with waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort Footwear liner
Midsole: Shock absorbing EVA midsole matched with a flexible half length shank for hike-able comfort
Outsole: Maximum grip, durable and lightweight Vibram exclusive hiking-cycling outsole
Heel: Lateral heel reinforcement ensures stability and prevents ankle roll
Closure: Mini Power Strap matched with double lacing hooks for firm heel and foot holding
Cleat Compatibility: SPD 2 bolt style
Extra Features: Shoelace keeper loop keeps shoelaces neatly tucked away
I used them to ride 15000m and they performed really well. I am size 11 UK size (46 EU size) and I lived in them. They were comfortable to wear and happily dealt with days of riding with no cleaning in a variety of weathers and terrains.
I would say that with no strap-system then this can put more load on the laces and might not provide the support that some people are after. Walking in them is not comfortable for long periods of time because of the solid sole.
To conclude; a comfortable and durable boot that will serve you well for a long distance trip. You get what you pay for with this one.
