Using iPhone for Adventure

I recently got hold of an iPhone 3 because a friend’s phone smashed so I fixed it using parts from Ebay. The reason I am talking about the iPhone and not any other type of smartphone is because it is so ubiquitous and the platform itself is the most technologically advanced.

What can you do with an iPhone 3 on an adventure?

Features

Compass

Its got a compass which works through something called The ‘Hall’ affect. More information about the compass is here. It does work through magnetism, and not from satellites or phone reception.

Visiting Workshops of Makers

A project I did at Goldsmiths was about “remaking” making. I had to go and look at making in progress and then have a think if I could a sort of making differently. I went to a range of workshops, shot some film, took photos and made drawings.

Janapar at Raindance Film Festival 2012

Raindance, which opens in London on September 25th sets its sights firmly on independent filmmaking, and has done so for the last twenty years, to the point where it is now the biggest such film festival in the UK and, according to Variety, one of the top 50 film festivals in the world.

The adventure cycling film ‘Janapar’, in which I appear, premiered at the festival.

A Good Year for Protesting in London

This year (2011) I attended a few protests against austerity, public service funding cuts, critical mass bicycle rides and others.

Lincoln's Inn Field Design Research

I had to design something for Lincoln’s Inn Field in Holborn.

First we had to do a detailed multi-media observational study on the place. I went there with others in my team and we took photos.

I recorded audio, conducted surveys and interviews. The goal was just to look and see what really happened there. I also conducted secondary research.

My project outcome was a system for doing city walks.

Finding Real News These Days Is Not Easy But Its Important

This morning, I have been digging through the news about the conflict between Russia and Georgia. I am trying to find some articles, which are closer to what I consider to be the truth.

Typing ‘real news’ into Google, I came across a news website which is member supported and does not accept advertising, government or corporate funding (http://therealnews.com). It seemed to me like a good start.

I found the following pieces interesting:

Media Coverage of War is As Confusing as War Itself

I’ve been following the news media frenzy on the conflict in Georgia. There are many news media channels available on google.co.uk/news and I’ve been watching the news breaking on this story, which has snowballed over the last ten days.

In one article in the Times, I saw the following story:

“A Georgian interior ministry spokesman said that, Russian forces were destroying Gori, which is about 50 miles north west of Tbilisi.

Earn Money and Stay Longer in One Place to Deepen Your Travel Experience

I’m working on a website for a real estate company here in Georgia because I have run out of money for the round the world bicycle trip.

I’m living with a Dutch architect and an English real estate company director called Richard. It’s a nice novelty to live with an English (as my French girlfriend Fanny would call us), but we’re just so bloody English… The architect has a dream to cycle round the world, so it’s nice to have something in common.
