Cycle Show, Latest bikes and components 2017 Part I - Elite, Shimano, Genesis Titanium

Yesterday I went to the Cycle Show at the Birmingham NEC to check out all the new bikes and try out mountain bikes and e-bikes. It was a good trip and this is my first in a multi-part blog series about my experience. Highlights for me include testing the Nukeproof Mega 290 Factory trail bike and the Calibre Bossnut as well as the Winora Yakun Tour e-bike with Yamaha engine.

Elite Direto Turbo Trainer

Elite Direto Turbo Trainer

Elite turbo trainer with 3d video. I’m cynical of turbo trainers as there is really very little that would prevent you from getting out and riding.

However, it was surprisingly entertaining. Annoying you can’t turn which would add another element to it. Realistic feeling gradient changes

Would be great for training if there really was no way you could be outside. I like the way they showed the device exploded on the wall.

Deore

DEORE M6000 HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKE LEVER

DEORE M6000 HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKE LEVER

Looks like the more shape of the more expensive brakes has trickled down to the low end but reliable stalwart Deore. Looked nice. I like the stubbie lever. Shimano website

SLX

What is the difference between SLX and Deore. Good question? Personally SLX looks slightly slicker.

Genesis Tarn-Ti with XTR

Georgeous looking titanium hardtail from Genesis caught my attention.

Our long 'n' low Tarn frameset in a super-sweet 3AL-2.5V titanium! This beautiful example of a titanium Tarn code name: "Tarntanium" comes into the line-up for 2018. After many requests over the past two years we now have the daddy of all 27.5+ frames. Spec it with either 27.5+ or standard 29" wheel/tyre combo for ultimate trail versatility. It'll happily take a top swing or side swing FD, comes with a shim for either a comfy 27.2mm rigid post or new-fangled 31.6mm dropper along with a port for stealth dropper routing. A new 120mm suspension corrected, full carbon fork. It has boost spacing front and rear (110x15/148x12mm) and a lightweight bolt up type rear axle. Both Shimano direct and old type hangers are included along with a sealed bearing headset to round up the carefully considered details.
